Basil Street
Basil Street ist eine Straße in der City of Westminster in London. Sie zweigt im Süden von der Hans Road ab wird durch den Hans Crencent (benannt nach en:Hans Sloane) geteilt, beginnt von neuem, passiert die Rysbrack Street (benannt nach en:John Michael Rysbrack) und die en:Pavilion Road und mündet im Norden in die en:Sloane Street.
Der Hans Crescent teilt die Straße in zwei Teile. Bis 1906 wude der östliche Teil Lower North Street und der westliche Teil Upper North Street genannt. Die Namensänderung erfolgte nicht zuletzt um sie von der gleichnamigen Straße in en:Poplar, London zu unterscheiden.

Ihren Namen hat die Straße von den Basil Mansions (Herrenhäuser) die nach Planen von Arnold Bidlake Mitchell errichtet wurden.

1773 wurde die Trasse als Bau- und Erschließungsweg für Hans Town (en:Sloane Square) von en:Henry Holland (architect) trassiert.[1]

Bekannt für seine zitierfähigen Beschimpfungen wurde der Charakter von Donald Sinclair inspiriert, einem exzentrischen Hotelbesitzer, dem Cleese begegnet war, als er im Mai 1970 zusammen mit dem Rest von en:Monty Python in seinem Hotel (Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay, England) übernachtete.
